Hertha BSC has announced the appointment of a new head coach, who will aim to lead the team away from relegation risk.

The club has confirmed that former German national team player and current assistant manager of Bundesliga side Wolfsburg, Markus Riedel, will take over as their new head coach.

Riedel was appointed at Wolfsburg in January 2019 after leaving his previous role at Borussia Dortmund, where he had been a key figure during the club's rise to prominence.

He is known for his tactical acumen and ability to inspire his players, having previously managed teams including Bayern Munich and FC Schalke 04.

His appointment comes after a difficult start to the season, with Hertha BSC struggling to maintain their place in the Bundesliga table.

However, they have bounced back since then, with a strong start to the league campaign and a promising start to the Champions League campaign.

Riedel will be tasked with guiding the team towards success this season, and he is looking forward to bringing a fresh perspective to the club.

"We are confident that with Riedel at the helm, we can turn our season around and return to the top flight," said Hertha BSC chairman Christian Fritsch.

"I am excited about the opportunity to work with such a talented and experienced coaching staff."

The move marks another significant step in the club's development, as they look to improve on last season's disappointing campaign and return to the top flight.

Hertha BSC has also revealed that they will continue to invest in the development of their youth academy, which will see more young talent develop into senior players.

"This year has been challenging for us, but we know that we have a bright future ahead of us," said Christian Fritsch.

"Having Markus Riedel at the helm will help us achieve that goal."
